A German delivery address should be treated as a set of matching delivery facts, not one text block copied from browser autofill. The recipient, street, house number, postcode and locality must describe the same destination. A phone number may help with a carrier message, but it cannot repair a label that points to the wrong building.
HipoBuy’s current public pages provide an international shopping and shipping workflow, but they do not publish a universal promise that every parcel address can be changed after submission, label creation or carrier handover. The safest operational rule is simple: verify the live destination summary while the parcel is still editable, then preserve a privacy-safe record of what you approved.
- Your current residence record or another trusted proof of address.
- A postal reference showing the correct street, postcode and locality combination.
- The final parcel-address summary displayed before submission.
All three should agree. If they do not, pause instead of choosing the version that “looks familiar”.
The normal German home-address sequence
Deutsche Post’s current addressing guidance places the recipient or organisation first, followed by the street and house number, then the five-digit postcode and locality. It advises against an empty line between the street and locality line. A district can appear between the recipient and street when it is genuinely needed. For a parcel arriving from abroad, the destination country should also be unambiguous in the country field.

This is an invented teaching address, not a deliverable destination. It demonstrates the relationship between fields: the house number remains attached to the street, while postcode and locality share the next line. Do not copy its data into an order. Use the spelling and house-number form that belongs to your real premises.
German letters such as ä, ö, ü and ß are ordinary parts of names and street spellings. If the parcel interface accepts them, use the verified form. If the interface rejects a character, use a consistent transliteration such as ae, oe, ue or ss rather than improvising a different street name. After saving, check that the summary did not silently remove a character or move part of the house number.
Audit every field for one specific risk
The name must match the receiving point
Deutsche Post lists a missing or mismatched mailbox name among common reasons a shipment cannot be assigned. That makes the recipient line operational evidence, not decoration. At a shared household, use the name visible to the delivery worker. For a c/o arrangement, confirm the host’s preferred format. For a workplace, ask whether the company, department or employee must appear first.
A social username, abbreviated surname or payment-account nickname may be recognised online and still be useless at the building. Keep the payment identity and delivery identity conceptually separate. If someone else will receive the parcel, make sure that person understands the carrier and collection process before you submit it.
Do not lose the house-number suffix
“18”, “18A” and “18–20” can identify different entrances. Browser suggestions sometimes retain a postcode while replacing a previously saved house number. Read the final summary from the recipient down, then read it again from the postcode upward. This two-direction check catches hybrids assembled from two saved addresses.
Apartment, floor and rear-building notes should only be included when they reflect the real postal or building convention. Do not insert door codes, identity numbers, tax numbers, payment data or long private instructions into the address. Delivery preferences belong in an authorised carrier channel when one becomes available.
Special destinations are not home-address variants
A Postfach does not use an ordinary street-and-house-number line. Deutsche Post’s format replaces that line with the post-office box number. A Packstation has its own structure using the recipient name, Postnummer, Packstation number, postcode and locality. Those published examples do not prove that every international carrier or every HipoBuy line accepts those delivery types.
A perfectly formatted Packstation or Postfach address is still the wrong choice if the selected international service does not support it. Check the current route’s destination rules and the facility’s acceptance conditions before parcel submission.
Workplaces, student housing and parcel shops also have local acceptance rules. Ask whether the reception desk accepts international parcels, what name or department it requires, and how long it holds deliveries. Do not infer those rules from a successful domestic letter.

If you notice an error after submission
First capture the parcel number, current status, address summary and exact incorrect field. Then prepare one complete corrected address. A message such as “my address is wrong” makes another person reconstruct the problem; a useful report says which field differs and shows the complete verified replacement.
If the parcel is still editable in the live interface, correct it and check the saved summary again. If it is no longer editable, use the current support channel and ask what is technically possible at that stage. Do not promise yourself that a carrier will change an international label after handover. Once a carrier is identified, follow only its official correction process and keep one timeline of responses.

- Do not publish screenshots containing your full address, phone number or parcel identifier.
- Do not pay an unexpected address-correction request from an unverified message link.
- Do preserve the original summary, corrected address, timestamps and case reference.
- Do re-check the recipient name at the physical mailbox or reception.
Final sixty-second label check
Before confirming the parcel, say each field aloud: recipient; optional company or c/o; street; full house number; optional unit; five-digit postcode; locality; Germany; reachable contact. Confirm that the destination type is supported by the current route. Finally, compare the saved summary—not only the editing form—with the trusted record.
